World-class Learning, World-class Outcomes
Extend your visit to Hartsholme Academy to explore a new design for the school of education. Following selected Open Morning at Hartsholme Academy, Carl Jarvis will really help you to reimagine what is possible in the schools of today for education for the future.
What is learning?
Carl will explore the implications that current neuro-science has on teaching and learning in the here and now of today. He will challenge the meaning and purpose of learning and will develop thinking around what constitutes outstanding teaching & learning; what this looks like and, essentially, what it means for our pupils.
Questions we will explore…
- Where should I start?!
- What is a learning ‘eco-system’ and where does ‘immersive learning’ fit in?
- How do I break down the ‘barriers’?
- How do you plan a project?
- Where do I go for help?
- Listen & talk to inspirational Trust & TSA CEO & Exec. Head, Carl Jarvis
- Visit real learning eco-systems
- Talk to staff & children
- Plan a project in collaboration or learn more about Critique as an effective feedback tool.

Carl Jarvis was appointed Headteacher at Hartsholme Academy in 2008 when the school was deep in special measures. Carl initiated a radical restructure and development programme, through which the school became outstanding only two years later. The school has sustained its progress and is consistently achieving within the top 5% of all schools. Carl’s philosophy centres on innovative practices that enable students to be fully interdependent and instilling ‘a burning desire for a need to know’. Carl’s work draws on global research of meta-cognative development and understanding ‘how’ and ‘why’ we learn.
Carl gives practical guides as to how we can embed this pedagogy into every day practice ensuring that ALL students exceed their potential.
